If you’re considering using a Hair Replacement System, just know that it’s not as easy as choosing a random system and using whatever products are needed for it. Bonded hair replacement systems in particular; require the use of a number of different products that need to be carefully studied before you commit to them.
Just as with certain cosmetics, hair dyes, and antibiotics; you can test out products that you use with your preferred Hair Replacement system to find out if you are allergic to them or not. This is especially true of adhesive products that are meant to bond your system in place. In the interest of public service, we want to give you some guidelines for allergy-testing potential adhesives to use with your hair replacement system.
There are two types of Hair Replacement System adhesives: tape adhesives and liquid adhesives. Both can be tested by applying a small amount behind your ear; which is a good simulation for your scalp. It is actually possible to test two different adhesive products by applying one of them behind each ear. Before you begin, use a cotton swab with some rubbing alcohol to clean the test area from excess oils.
Testing Hair Replacement Tapes
You can test adhesive tapes by cutting a small sample amount using scissors dipped in rubbing alcohol to keep them from sticking to the tape. Apply the sample behind you ear and then cover the tape with another piece of tape: this time, some adhesive bandage or surgical tape to protect the sample from dust and dirt.
Testing Liquid Hair Replacement Adhesives
Apply some liquid adhesive to the back of your ear using a brush or other applicator. Let dry; then apply another layer. After the liquid has dried, cover the sample with some surgical tape or adhesive bandage to keep it free from dust and dirt.
Leave the samples on for roughly three days. If nothing happens, then the adhesive is suitable for your skin. If you experience any itching, redness, or bumps; then you should try another brand or type.
